At the battle of Thermopylae in 480 BC a Persian General, leading one million men against the Spartan 300, demanded that the Spartans lay down their weapons and live as slaves. With a roaring voice, Leonidas, the King of the Spartans, replied: “Molan Lave” -- “Come and take them!” Thousands of Persians, starting with the arrogant General, died over the next three days. The Spartans gave Greece and the world the ultimate example of self-sacrifice for Family, Country and Freedom. Americans are the inheritors of the Greek tradition of personal Freedom and Liberty and, once again, we wear that mantle as we face the “Persian Hordes” of old who demand that we lay down our culture and cherished Freedoms. Can we sustain that mantle, and say anything less to the Persians or anyone else, than did Leonidas?
